Questions
Frequently asked questions
Before you come
- Do I pay for the first session?
No. Your first session is free.
- How much do the classes cost?
There is no price list on the site yet. The quickest way to find out is to call or message us on WhatsApp.
Police officers, firefighters, soldiers and special services officers get 25% off monthly passes.
- How do I sign up?
The best way is to get in touch before your first visit. We will confirm the time and suggest which group to come to. You do not need to know anything about combat sports to ask.
For Brazilian jiu-jitsu, ask straight away whether the class at that time runs in the gi or without it. What you need to bring depends on that.
- Do I need to be fit or have experience?
No. Being fit is a result of training, not a condition for stepping into the gym.
The beginner group is for people who have had no previous contact with combat sports. The whole group learns the same things at the same pace.
- Do I need a medical certificate or insurance?
An adult does not need to bring a medical certificate or insurance. Anyone under eighteen needs a parent's consent.
- What should I bring to my first session?
Sports clothing, a water bottle and flip flops for moving around off the mat.
For your first MMA sessions the Academy can lend you basic gloves. A gi, the uniform for Brazilian jiu-jitsu, you need to have your own, that we do not lend.
Your first time in the gym
- What time should I arrive?
Ten to fifteen minutes before the class. That is enough to get changed without rushing and have a few words with the coach. There are changing rooms and showers on site.
When you come in, go up to a coach and say it is your first time. We start with a conversation, and only then do you step onto the mat.
- How long is a session?
One training unit lasts 60 minutes. Every entry in the schedule is exactly one unit.
The class opens with a general conditioning warm up, done by the whole group together. Then comes the training itself.
- Will I be sparring straight away?
There is no sparring on your first session. The coach decides when a given person starts coming to sparring.
- What are the rules on the mat?
We step onto the mat barefoot, without jewellery, with nails cut short and in sports clothing.
For Brazilian jiu-jitsu there is also a clean uniform for every session and covered cuts and grazes. With contagious skin conditions or while ill we do not come to training. We train in close contact, so these rules apply to everyone without exception.
Groups and classes
- Which group should I start with?
The beginner group. The level goes up gradually, and moving on is decided by the coach, looking at technique and how regularly you train.
People with experience from another club move up after the coach has seen them in a class.
- Will I have to compete?
No. Anyone who does not plan to compete can simply train here.
The Academy is a club focused on sporting development and prepares those who want it for competition. Joining the competitive group is decided by a conversation with the coach and his agreement.
- Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the gi or without it?
It depends on the group. The two versions differ enough that it is worth knowing from the start which one you are joining, so arrange it with the coach before your first session.
- Is one to one training possible?
Yes. One to one sessions and small groups are run by Adam Okniński and Aleksander Okniński, and the time is arranged directly with the coach.
- What about classes for children?
Classes for children are run differently from the adult groups. Questions from parents, from how we assign groups to whether you can stay and watch, are gathered on a separate page.
Where and when
- Where do you train?
At Centrum Sportu Wilanów, at Wiertnicza 26A in Warsaw. The room is on level minus one.
- When are the classes?
Group classes run from Monday to Friday. Exact times are in the schedule, and before your first visit it is best to confirm them by phone, because the plan changes during the season.
